What dog-tag sizes can I order?
DogTag.ie currently offers four blank size options: two Dog bone sizes, one Round size and one Heart-shaped size. All dimensions below are width × height × thickness.

- Round: 25 × 25 × 1 mm
- Heart-shaped: 32 × 35 × 1 mm
Start with the collar, not only the dog’s size
Compare the tag dimensions with the collar hardware and width. A comfortable choice should hang freely from the ring without covering the fastening or catching against bulky fittings.
- Measure the collar width near the attachment ring.
- Check that the tag will clear buckles and adjusters.
- Allow room for the tag to swing without rubbing against sharp hardware.
Blank size is not the same as engraving width
The published dimensions measure the complete aluminium blank. The hanging hole, rounded ends and clear edge margin reduce the space available for text. That is why the builder checks the selected font and wording instead of relying on character count alone.
Which size gives me more room for text?
The large 40 × 27 mm Dog bone has the widest central area in the current range. The small Dog bone, Round and Heart-shaped tags are better suited to shorter owner details that remain easy to read.
- Smaller collar: start by comparing the 30 × 20 mm Dog bone.
- Longer owner detail: compare the 40 mm-wide Dog bone.
- Short name and contact line: the 25 mm Round or 32 × 35 mm Heart-shaped tag may be enough.

What are common dog tag dimensions?
In the current DogTag.ie range, the small Dog bone is 30 × 20 × 1 mm, the large Dog bone is 40 × 27 × 1 mm, the Round is 25 × 25 × 1 mm and the Heart-shaped tag is 32 × 35 × 1 mm.
What is the best dog-tag size for a small dog?
Use the collar dimensions and required wording rather than a breed label alone. The 30 × 20 mm Dog bone has the smallest profile, but choose the larger size if the necessary owner details need more room to remain clear.
Can a dog tag be too big?
Yes. A tag can be impractical if it overwhelms the collar, catches on fittings or interferes with normal movement. Compare the published measurements with the collar before ordering.
Does a larger tag always mean clearer engraving?
Not always. Shape and line direction matter as well as overall size. A wider tag can help a long horizontal line, while short wording may fit clearly on a compact Round or Heart-shaped tag.
Should I use the back of the tag?
Use optional reverse engraving when it lets the front remain simple and readable. The builder shows how the selected wording fits before ordering.
